Hey gang-

My band has a dance tonight and I just got a call from a regular who asked us to perform "It's The Talk Of The Town."

I'm not familiar with this song at all...I have the sheet music and found a rather bouncy midi file of it. This version has a hint of a shuffle in it.

A few questions:

1) What is the standard tempo for this tune? The guy described it as a ballad...but from doing a search on Itunes, I found only jazz insturmental versions-which don't give me a real good idea for this evenings dance.

2) Who performed the "popular version" of this tune?

3) Is this traditionally a vocal or instrumental song? Again, the requester stated he's heard it done both ways.

He's a sweet old guy and I'd like to hook him up if I can. (Although I wish he'd called me on Monday and not this nmorning about this, lol...)

Many of the jazz artist did this. Believe it or not I have a CD with Dizzy and Getz doing this together.

Do it as you would do "Tenderly in 4/4 not 3/4, or as you would do "Stardust"

I played this on Bourbon street in the 60's. It's a great jazz ballad.

If you like slow moody stuff do it at 65 - 70. If you want bouncy do it at 96-105.

If you like the standards, you'll probably want to keep this one in your book. If you don't like Stardust, Tenderly and such, you won't like this one either.

I ran the guys through it for a sound check and it came together pretty fast. We took it as a medium tempo ballad in our 2nd set and the floor filled quickly, so we must have been in the ballpark.
